Sure there are more than 10, but I didn't want to make a longer list. I also didn't want to focus on reasons for not doing things, but if I didn't I wouldn't be learning from my past and I would be making the same past my present. To hell with mediocrity.
These reasons creep up all over, not only in practice but in life outside of practice. There is no order and one is not more important than the next one. They all suck. They all have one thing in common, overcoming struggle.
Here are 10 beliefs of self doubt:
1 I'm not worthy / deserving of success
2 I don't know how
- I'm not willing to learn
3 I'm afraid to fail
4 I don't know where to start
- I feel overwhelmed with ideas but lack focus.
5 I believe I will fail at X because I once failed at Y
- I believe that if I once failed (or see the situation as a failure) I will be destined to repeat the failure in another albeit different endeavor
6 Listening to others
- choosing to hear the - talk
- including - self talk
7 Believing I will fail because others have
8 Believing that I am not worth the investment
9 Discouraged by slow returns
- It takes a while to actually see the results of our effort. Conversely like cigarette smoking, it takes years to see the effects.
